Biography
Dr. Danica Marrelli is a Clinical Professor and Assistant Dean of Clinical Education at the University of Houston College of Optometry, where she also directs the Ocular Diagnostic and Medical Eye Service. A UHCO graduate, she completed her residency in hospital-based optometry at the Baltimore Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland.
Recognized nationally as an authority in glaucoma care, Dr. Marrelli earned Diplomate status in the American Academy of Optometry's Ocular Disease (Glaucoma) Section in 2009. She currently serves as the president of the Optometric Glaucoma Society and contributes to the Glaucoma Research Foundation through its Education and Communication Committee.
Dr. Marrelli's contributions to clinical education and the profession have been recognized through multiple awards, including the 2024 Michael G. Harris Family Award for Excellence in Optometric Education from the American Academy of Optometry Foundation and the 2024-25 Beta Sigma Kappa Outstanding Lecture Faculty Award from UHCO. Her career reflects a deep commitment to advancing clinical education, evidence-based practice, and excellence in patient care.
