The University of Houston College of Optometry provides several post-baccalaureate degree and certification programs in Optometry, Physiological Optics, Clinical Residency training, and Advanced Practice Fellowships. Links to the application portals for each program are provided below.

 

The College of Optometry requires submission of entrance exam scores and strongly prefers the Optometry Admission Test (OAT). MCAT, PCAT, DAT, and GRE scores are also acceptable.

 

Our Programs

Students in our Doctor of Optometry program will practice patient care and a variety of clinical services through our UH Health - Eye Care Center beginning their second-year fall semester.

Important Details:
  • Application Deadline: Clinical professional degree program applications are accepted between July 1st and February 28th. Admitted students begin training in the fall semester. 
  • Application Submission: Applications are submitted via the national application service, OptomCAS and must also include the college's supplemental application. All supporting credentials must be received in the College of Optometry Office of Student Services by February 28th
  • Note: OptomCAS can take several weeks after submission; therefore, students are advised to submit OptomCAS applications well before the February 28th deadline.

Students in our Graduate Physiological Optics or Combined program prepare students for careers in teaching and research that could lead to academic, industry, and professional settings in basic and clinical vision sciences.

  • Application Deadline: Completed applications with all required documentation should be submitted between October 1 and February 1 preceding the fall semester of expected entrance.
  • CollegeNet Account: After you establish your account on CollegeNet, you can check the status of your application, upload required materials, including your resume or CV, research statement and writing samples, as well as update your contact information as needed. Application decisions will be communicated by email.

Resident Training programs and Advanced Practice Fellowships are available at the University of Houston College of Optometry and at several affiliated external sites. These programs are designed to provide optometrists with advanced clinical training and knowledge in a specific area.
