Clinical Fellowships

The University of Houston College of Optometry offers three one-year post-doctoral fellowships.  Offering advanced training in specialty contact lens, ocular surgery, or community-based community care, the fellowships are designed to provide optometrists with further knowledge and advancement possibilities within these specialties.

Eligibility

Clinical Fellowships are available to graduates of schools and colleges of optometry accredited by the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education (ACOE).

Available Fellowships

Cornea & Contact Lens Fellowship

The Texas Eye Research & Technology Center's (TERTC) Cornea and Contact Lens Fellowship is a one-year post-doctoral fellowship designed to prepare optometrists for advanced specialty contact lens training on challenging corneas with interesting diseases and dystrophies and post-surgical cases.

Ocular Surgery

The Ocular Surgery Fellowship is a one-year post-doctoral fellowship designed to prepare optometrists for independent surgical practice. Trainees will train with experienced mentors to perform surgical and perioperative care for conditions affecting the eye and related structures.

Community Health

The Clinical Community-Based Teaching Fellowship is a one-year post-doctoral fellowship which begins on August 12th, 2024 before the start of the Fall Semester. This unique optometric public health position will give the Fellow a competitive background for obtaining appointment with leading community centers and public healthcare facilities.
